Creative Copy Challenge Conflict

October 13, 2015 By Cathy Miller 4 Comments

Conflict postDon’t you love surprises?

Surprises delight and offer hope.

At times they open your mind to questions.

A recent surprise fell in the latter camp. If you are a regular reader, you know I love the word prompt site, Creative Copy Challenge.

I’ve been a bit remiss in creating a submission. Some by design. Some due to life being life.

Recent challenges were tough with words you need to look up. I welcome the challenge but hesitate to share them here. It’s tough enough getting readers without compelling them to look up words.

The latest challenge was a pleasant surprise offering my own internal conflict.

Kathleen, who has been providing the words, offered the fascination of words with multiple (sometimes opposite) meanings. She challenged us to use them in one of those forms.

So, what’s the conflict?

I discovered it was really hard for me to play by the “rules”. I am not sure why I am surprised by that. I never like following the crowd.

I respect words but love playing with their “real” meaning or tense. I wanted to convert verbs to nouns or the other way around. I wanted to invent my own ambiguous meaning. Ah, such a rebel. We each have our own meaning of that.

Without further ado, my submission is shown below. The challenge words are in bold.

Creative Copy Conflict

His apology for aught he knew meant words would bolt from the constraints that bind

What was bound was freed with a dollop of delight, as he dust time with destiny

Rules enjoin creativity to bars of restraints until the last breath is finished

The carnage may sting like a first degree burn or ravish in flames of heat

Dare we fix the damage to words or revel in their rebirth?

Word play… one of the delights in language development….
It’s the way we can increase our vocabulary… No, it’s the way we NEED to increase our lexicon.

There’s a poet in you, Cathy. Poetry is all about turning the meaning on its ear. 🙂

Honestly, I think the rules should be broken whenever you can get away with it, which is all the time! LOL I’m right beside on that rebel podium. 🙂
