When Social Media Goes Silent

June 6, 2013 By Cathy Miller 4 Comments

bigstock-cricket-illustration-34307432Have you ever felt like you were the only person working?

You haunt all your social media sites and there’s nothing there but yesterday’s news.

Fridays, in particular, are like that. Chirping crickets. At least it seems that way.

Don’t you hate when you are trying to waste time, and you can’t?

Too Much Noise

Most of the time, social media is too much noise.

  • Tweets and Posts and Likes
  • Oh my

I desperately look for a way to shut it off. So, why does it bother me when I find social media has gone silent?

Maybe because I know it hasn’t. It’s me who’s shut down.

Looking Inside

My restlessness means it’s time for introspection.

  • What do I want?
  • How do I get there?
  • What’s holding me back?

Perhaps the answer is in chirping crickets.

It is indeed, Cathy. That social media silence has redefined our feeling of boredom, I think. You’re looking for something to entertain you, but you’re just so bored with it all. Am I right?

Time for a game of Bejeweled Blitz. 🙂

A game is the last thing I need. 🙂 Fortunately, I really don’t like playing online games. Otherwise, I’d be in serious trouble. 🙂

      Thanks, Lori.

Cathy, I have so many friends on Facebook that my feed is never silent, although it is often crowded with the trivial. Try following George Takei; he often shares lots of funny stuff.

Thanks for the tip, John. I’m not sure it was as silent as much as I was not into it at the tie this was written. That happens to me sometimes. 😉
