It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

December 20, 2013 By Cathy Miller 2 Comments

I love Christmas. The lights, the stockings, the holiday cards.

  • Real, live paper holiday cards
  • It so trumps junk mail

My dad built what we call the Bear Barn. (We used to call my dad, Bear, until he said he missed being called Dad).

The Christmas Trek

Dad’s Bear Barn has converted into a storage shed.

Each year, I make the trek between the Bear Barn and our house, hauling in the Christmas decorations. Trust me, they are legion.

  • Two artificial Christmas trees
  • A nativity with ~
    • Mary
    • Joseph
    • Baby Jesus (who is not put in the stable until Christmas day – by Mom because my boomer brain never remembers)
    • The three Wise Men
    • Some shepherds
    • Sheep, cattle, and the donkey Mary rode in on
    • And an angel and star
  • Stockings and holders for the mantle
  • Decorations for the hearth, family room, and just about every other room in the house
  • Outside decorations and lights

Instead of going on and on, here is visual proof of our Christmas madness.

I love Christmas, too. Sadly, this year’s festivities have been interrupted by construction inside. I was so busy helping prep the kitchen for new appliances, I never got my cards out. The plywood floors in parts of the house meant I didn’t have to decorate — that may have been a good thing. I feel awful for not sending cards, though. I had one — we always take pics and turn them into cards. Just never had five minutes to address a single envelope.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t wish you all a Happy Christmas. 🙂

But, that shiny new toy in your kitchen is so worth the disruption. 🙂 Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and happy cooking in 2014! 😉

      Thanks, Lori.
