The Freedom to Not Care About SEO

August 22, 2012 By Cathy Miller 8 Comments

This blog is all about freedom.

  • The freedom of a baby boomer’s second life
  • The freedom of a goldfish escaping the school
  • The freedom not to care about SEO

Huh?

Free Spirit

For my non-bloggy friends, SEO is Search Engine Optimization.

It’s the endless journey for discovering the right formula that cracks the front page of internet searches.

My resistance to conformity doesn’t allow for an inordinate amount of SEO time – even at my business writing site. Ack – snuck in a link for the almighty search gods.

At my business site, I look for a balance between not being stupid and getting hung up on where I rank in searches.

Here – I simply don’t care. And that is freeing.

The Journey

Freedom gives you permission to enjoy the journey.

  • Explore your creative side
  • Follow what interests you
  • Share the experience

When life overwhelms, find that place that allows you freedom.

  • It could be a blog or paper and pen
  • Or the sound of music you love
  • It could be a walk through the trees
  • Or all of the above

Freedom opens the door to dreams and embraces the possibilities.

Freedom allows you not to care about things that don’t matter.

Have you discovered freedom?

Great post! I gave up caring too and then found out I was ranking higher than I ever did when I cared about it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Anthony: Nice to see you here. Thanks for the nice words. Isn’t that funny how it works out? Gives credence to not worrying about it. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Thanks for stopping by, Anthony.

I care only a little bit, Cathy. Enough to take one editing pass to make sure there are a few keywords… if they come easily and gracefully… no more than that.

    How’s the fundraising going?

I have built-in software on my business site. I may tweak based on that, but that’s about it.

I have about $550 left to raise on the minimum. Thanks, Anne.

    Hi Cathy,

I think SEO is over rated anyway! I have a blog (about vampires) that I haven’t done much SEO on, but it is getting hits and it’s the second best performing blog I have for AdSense revenue.

On the other hand, I have another blog (about Gothics) where I’ve done a lot of SEO and it’s not performing as well as the vampire blog ๐Ÿ™

I think SEO is important. It’s just NOT THAT IMPORTANT.

Cathy, I think my resistance to worrying about SEO is similar to yours. My blog isn’t driven by that — it’s driven by good people who visit and make it a community. That’s a nicer search result, in my opinion. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve recently discovered freedom in not worrying about clients’ timelines so much. Used to be I’d climb over myself to make sure I met their deadlines, even if they came to me months after the fact and expected things to start up instantly. Now I’m carving out that balance between getting their projects done in a reasonable length of time and keeping myself from feeling overworked (well, more than usual). That’s freeing.

Good for you, Lori, and that is certainly freeing. I don’t know if it’s an age thing, but I’ve definitely felt freer in being more selective in the work I do. I figured after 30+ years of corporate life, I earned it. ๐Ÿ™‚

And I agree the community and good people is the best kind of search result. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for stopping by, Lori.
